Sherri, Oil portrait on oil & acrylic 24 x 18

Here is a portrait of Sherri. I see her as a mystical, magical, spiritual person full of wisdom. She writes:

“I believe there is a lesson in everything we experience in this life. Opportunities for growth for ourselves and those we interact with. If we stay heart centered and present in the moment we can see and experience what they are.

We didn’t come here to be sheep and follow the dysfunctional status quo. Escaping the mold that society, religion, etc. imposes is challenging, and becoming aware of and being your authentic self is challenging.

I have overcome so much in this lifetime and am so grateful for the healing and the insights I’ve experienced. I feel I have not only survived challenging and often painful experiences but have grown and added pieces of my authentic self that had been hidden over lifetimes. I am still a work in progress and still challenged in different areas. Today I don’t run from those lessons. I process those experiences on a different level and try to see the whole picture for myself and others involved in it. I believe we are all here for spiritual growth and this is my authentic self.

What has been challenging?

-        Being raised in an alcoholic abusive household

-        Abandoned by my father during that time

-        Sexual abuse, low self worth and esteem

-        Death of my daughter, Cortney

-        Fighting for her son, Levi

-        I am different than most people and learning that it is my authentic self and being who I am has been challenging

-        Discovering my spiritual path has been challenging without a structure to follow. Each piece added one at a time as to what fits and is true to me and what is heartfelt and not created to induce fear and control as most organized religions have

-        Working and healing past traumas was difficult and overwhelming. Opening those boxes so neatly stored away was scary but worth it. Lifetimes of trauma and giving my self worth to others greatly affected this life. Taking it all back has allowed me to be whole again and have a different perspective

-        Health issues"
